Words.
The most powerful tool in any business arsenal. Words can make you or break you overnight.
I have chosen to post this third installment of The Build a Better Home Based Business Series on this free blog to demonstrate the power of words and how to use them effectively to generate additional income for your business.
You won't find an English lesson here. The words I am going to use here today will work with any language.
Let's start with some quick basics:
Choose your words wisely.
Always 'Spell Check' any message before sending no matter how insignificant the message may seem.
Always proof read your messages before sending, do your words make sense?
Always save your sent messages for future use. (I'll explain that one more in a minute)
Make effective use of hyperlinks in your messages.
Update and use your signature.
O.K. now it's time for some explanation.
The first three basics should be obvious. No one wants to decipher your intended meaning through poor grammar and bad spelling. We all make mistakes, that's part of being human (and I am as human as it gets) so make the extra effort and spend a few extra seconds to proof read and spell check your message before you send it off.
Next I made mention of saving your sent messages. Many people don't for a variety of reasons but I keep each and every one. If space is an issue I copy and paste them into a text file and burn them to a disk for future reference or I forward them to one of my larger email accounts and place them in a folder named for the account from which they originated.
Why do I spend so much space for old, sent messages?
Simple.
Reference, Ideas and Ads.
I can always refer back to a link someone sent me that I failed to bookmark. I also use it as an inspirational tool to come up with new concepts and ideas for future promotions. Most importantly though I use these messages to generate ads!
Ad writing is an art that many of us unfortunately do not have the time to master. I for one am very time-limited and don't consider myself highly skilled in this area. The precious few minutes I do find during the day are usually spent answering questions and replying to requests for more information.
When I post a new ad I want it to be fresh and different. I need to stand out of the crowd to get noticed but I don't want to spend a lot of time doing it. I save time by pulling words and phrases from my sent messages to create my own ad copy. It's fresh, new and original. The best catch phrases are condensed and used for headlines and the rest is elaborated within the ad itself.
Think about it for a moment. Why work twice? I already spent the time compiling the information, choosing good words, proof reading and spell checking along the way so everything I need for an effective ad is already there. It just needs to be reformatted for its intended use. Besides, I hate doing things twice.
To make my words magnetic I hyperlink all the important words suitable for the subject at hand. I do it almost to a fault. The trick is not to hyperlink every word (because the recipient will tend to dismiss them) but concentrate on those which will benefit the recipient and you equally. I make it a habit to hyperlink my messages, blogs and ads.
Here is an example from a recent reply I sent out:
"I will most certainly take advantage of it in the near future. I too am a member of DirectMatches. You can view my profile here.
SFI is great! Growing fast! Getting larger every day! I am also a current member of the International Association of Home Business Entrepreneurs.
As far as the SpiderWeb Marketing System goes, my downline is growing twice as fast as my SFI business! The SpiderWeb Marketing System is continually adding additional streams of income, currently up to 22 from 12."
Did you catch what I did there? Let's hit some of the finer points before we move on to the last subject.
First, I purposely did not hyperlink DirectMatches instead I hyperlinked my DirectMatches profile through the word here. This places emphasis on DirectMatches in a rather indirect way. Not too tricky but informative for the recipient and beneficial to me.
Next, look real close as you hover over the remaining hyperlinked words. Do you see it? Concentrate on the two SFI links and then again on the two SpiderWeb Marketing links. See it yet? What's different about these two pair of links? Step to the front of the class if you said that the links are different. Same words, same look and feel but different links. To the casual reader the two links are identical but when you study them closely you will notice that I have actually hyperlinked those words to my business partners. This is a very effective and powerful way to promote your downline without spelling it out so to speak. I'll cover affiliate promotion in a future Build a Better Home Based Business Series post.
Last but not least is the simplest thing you can do with words using all of the techniques we just discussed above. Place your hyperlinked ads, phrases and words in the signature line of your email messages. If you have more than one email account (which most folks do) use different signature lines for each account. Believe it or not, people do read these things! The downline of several of my businesses and my associate partners has benefited greatly from this gem. You already did all the work now use it for all it's worth.
Well, we certainly covered a lot of information in this segment. I promise they won't all be this long. If you missed a post click here for the current list.
Hopefully this brief example has at least inspired you to take a closer look at the true value of WORDS.
Until next time.
Happy Marketing!
